Who we are as Christians

what Life is all about…

I don’t know if you notice it or not, but “Life” in the lead-in is capitalized…why?  A Christian’s Life is Christ’s Life!  Not the Old Natural, Human life before the New Birth.  Wow!  How many know that, are cognizant of that, and appropriating that?!?

Until we Christians KNOW Who (capital W) we really are, and what that looks like (trichotomy diagram of a Christian), we cannot operate with complete, accurate, and adequate info,  knowledge, and understanding.

For instance, there is not such thing as “man” since the Fall of Adam & Eve’s salvation…no such thing as Christians having “one soul” like a Lost Person – Christians have “two souls.”

For a diagram of the trichotomy of a Christian, email at address below and I will send you the diagram of both Lost Man and Born Again Man.

It is sad to ever hear a Christian say, “Well, I’m just human.”  NO!  NO!  NO!

I'm going to Jackson...

I shared about the discussion at CitP, but the “plans of God” that took place the two days before are absolutely incredible.  Barbara and I planned to drive to Jackson, MS, to see the ETBU volleyball team play a match with Belhaven Univ. on Friday night, then drive to Pineville, LA, on Saturday morning to see them play LA College that afternoon…hoping to make contact with two friends whose homes were “on the way.”  Well, God had other plans after we arrived in Jackson.
(this is a rather long post…hope you stay with me).  As we arrived in Jackson and went to check in at our motel, the auto started acting up…noises, lights flashing on dash panel, lighted insignias appeared there also.  We had just gotten a new battery the day before.  When I stopped the car and tried to start it again, nothing.  Barbara remembered we had “roadside assistance” with our auto insurance.  We contacted them, made arrangements for a tow truck to pick us up at the motel Saturday morning, and then called Belhaven (athletic dept) to see if someone could pick us up (we were only a mile away) for the match.  The person answering the phone was the assoc. athletic director who offered to come get us!  Wow!
After the match that ETBU won, the team bus carried us by the motel on their way to Pineville to spend the night.  We decided to drop by the lobby to get some coffee (late as it was), and two ladies at the front desk asked us how our day went.  We said great when it came to the volleyball match, but our car was “dead” in the parking lot.  One of the ladies said, “Well, let me tell you MY story.”  Brace yourself…
This woman began to tell of bad financial troubles caused by a dealership not recognizing her car warranty and the high costs of repairs.  Also, her young daughter (only child) had been having health issues for a few years (difficulties and more financial stress).  “I’ve been depressed for over 6 months.”  BUT, then she said, “My 13 year old daughter died this past Father’s Day.”  Whoa!
Immediately Barbara said, “You need a hug!”  They hugged, prayed, and we gave the woman some discipleship thoughts, and promised to stay in touch with her.
There are so many other parts of all this, but no space to share them all.
However, the story continued Saturday morning…the wrecker driver turned out to be a real God-send.  He “diagnosed” that we didn’t need another battery, but probably an alternator.  He knew of a place that was open on Saturdays…(we had been given two others on Friday night that turned out to not be open on Saturdays…we thought it possible we would have to stay in Jackson until Monday!).  We are taken to the auto repair place, treated with great care and respect, given some discounts, and were on our way a little after noon…too late to go to Pineville for the 2nd volleyball match.  But home safely and easily by 6pm Saturday night.
SO LET ME ASK YOU…did any of this surprise or shock God?  No.  Did God have a “plan” for us to go through all we did in Jackson?  Yes.  God orchestrates our lives, or paths, to fit His plan.  Let me tell you what comes to mind: IF we had not had the problems with the auto, we would not have made the comment to the two ladies at the counter that led to one speaking up and telling HER STORY.  And at this time, Tuesday afternoon following the weekend, several contacts and connections have been made (including such with the lady whose daughter recently died…the lady has given me permission to share her name so you can join us in praying for her…her name is Crystal) that otherwise would have not been a part of her life.  God has a plan…always!
SO WOULD YOU join in praying for Crystal?  Changes in our plans, even expensive ones! (God provided), are a part of God’s heart in someone’s life who needs a touch.  Batteries go bad.  Alternators go bad.  But God’s timing could not have been better for Crystal.  Well, amen.
AND I HOPE you will share this story and prayer need with your friends.  And I promise to keep you posted as things develop.

God always has a plan

God always has a plan.  Isn’t that wonderful!  He tells us in several places in the Bible that “man makes plans, but God directs our steps.”  When something happens unexpectedly from our plans I always remember our friend Michael Wells’ statement: “God permits what He could prevent, and He prevents what He could permit.”  Nothing happens without the hand of God on it…one way or the other.
Two things changed directions for me this weekend.  One I will share here, the other I will share on my personal ministry blog: leemccmviews.blogspot.com
What I will share here: today at Christ In The Park we were having one discussion, then the whole thing changed to another.  And it did so because of who was there, and who was not.  That in itself is always interesting each Sunday!  The end result today was that God took our thoughts and words to a discussion on bible texts, translations, and word meanings.  There was no end to the discussion, which is perfectly fine.  But, one thing is certain, every Christian I have ever known who really is interested in communicating with God has a desire to hold in their hands THE Word of God (written) and to speak to & hear from The Word (Christ) of God.  So, it is important that all Believers do due diligence to search for Well, amen.
The temperatures have been very warm.  The fellowship just as warm.  Thanks to God’s presence each and every Sunday.
p.s. be sure to go to the “views” blogspot…I promise you it will be a huge blessing for you!  And besides, I will give you some info on a prayer need I want to share with you and ask you to share with as many as you can.

"Make" vs "Set"

what Life is all about…

“Make” vs “Set”
The issue of what John 8:32 and 8:36 truthfully say has come up…  Virtually all translations, except for the KJV, say “set free.”  KJV says “make free.”  There is a huge difference in those two statements.
Now keep in mind, that ever since the Garden of Eden, our enemy has been after one thing with all his might: “yea, hath God said?”  Diversion, dilution, deletion, disdain, distrust, distraction…any way he can get God’s children to doubt or deviate from the Word(s) of God.  This is the effort of some to use subtlety to get Christians to deviate and to use faulty or false translations.  Without going into that battle once more, let me give you a simple illustration to show the falsehood of “set free” in those verses.
Let’s say someone has committed a crime.  For a good picture, think back to the old western movies when an outlaw’s compadres would tear out the window of the back of the jail, blow a hole in the back wall, or simply come into the front with guns drawn and “set” the jailed outlaw “free.”  Was the outlaw completely and permanently “free,” or just removed from the jail?  But, IF a judge, or jury, or Governor reversed the verdict or pardoned the outlaw, the outlaw was “made free,” no longer with any guilt hanging over his head.  See the huge difference?
Jesus has MADE us Believers FREE from ANY GUILT.  In fact, God has said, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ…” (Romans 8:1).  Would you rather be “set free,” basically temporarily, OR “made free” permanently?
This is an example of one of many very subtle tools our enemy uses in perverted translations.  Those WALKING IN THE SPIRIT and TESTING THE SPIRITS will know the difference by the grace of God, in due time, with good fellowship with Holy Spirit.
Don’t you really want to know if you absolutely have THE Word of God in your hands?

p.s. anytime you see “truth” in Scripture, you can substitute “Jesus” and still be handling Truth.

Carrying the Load

what Life is all about…

CARRYING THE LOAD
Two consequences from carrying a load Believers are not meant to carry: stress and depression.  And both do not fit a Christian, according to God.

Hudson Taylor said, “Never let any pressure in life come between you and the Lord.  If you don’t, the greater the pressure the more it presses you to His breast.”  All loads, all stress, all pressure should drive us to our Source of peace and provision -- the Person of Jesus Christ.

One scripture gives us the Apostle Paul’s take in a situation where he says he was “pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life” (2 Corinthians 1:8).  That’s a difficult situation.  But look at his solution: “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead” (v. 9).

So, no matter what our load is, Jesus wants to carry our load: “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Oh, by the way, depression comes from carrying a load that should never be carried, and it gets to the point it overwhelms the carrier.

Oh Lord, I cast all my load upon You, and rest in your yoke.

Walk In The Truth

what Life is all about…

Walk In The Truth
My friend, Michael Wells, wrote about this in his first volume of My Weakness for His Strength.
his book is available at ABIDING LIFE MINISTRIES, INT’L, www.abidinglife.com and (303) 972-0859

Three points Michael made have stayed with me for years…
1.  If truth can set anyone free for five minutes, then it can set him free for a lifetime.
John 8:32 and 8:36 are truth that verifies this.
2. Truth (Christ) is something to be walked in as faith (which is Christ’s) works alongside to bring experience.  To know the power of truth one must walk in it.
          Inserts in parentheses are mine.
3.  When anyone decides not to walk in truth they rebel, and the one thing that will most facilitate rebellion and render them the least uncomfortable during the process is anger.  The progression is 1) rebel, 2) develop anger, and 3) justify the anger.  No one can rebel and blame anyone but themselves.

And here is a most incredible point: no one’s “will” is broken.  We CHOOSE.  Believers really have no inkling of an excuse.

God's Way Out

what Life is all about…

A couple of events waylaid my plans to get this “list” posted sooner…please forgive me!

Back on 7-13, I mentioned Proverbs 12:25.  And I asked you to think of some feelings associated with a heavy/depressed heart.  And some verses from God’s Word that give God’s “way out” of those feelings leading to a heavy/depressed heart.

Keep in mind that I am a firm believer in God being able to heal any “damage” done to a Saint’s feelings/emotions.  And that His healing is the only real “cure” for such damage.  Not time.  Not anything else.  An uncomplicated prayer asking God to heal those damaged emotions, and to take away all the fallout (damaged emotions) done works well with His Word.  (a sample prayer available upon request)

Also, know that the Word of God sometimes mentions an “answer” from God that is indirect, not direct.  By that I mean we must soak on His Word to grasp His healing Word and find His heart in the matter.

Here are some things I have kept track of over the years that have been a great help for folks to find that “merry heart” mentioned in Proverbs 15:13 and 17:22:
·         fear – Isaiah 26:3, 2 Timothy 1:7
·         worry – Philippians 4:4-9
·         guilt/condemnation – Romans 8:1, 1 John 1:9
·         doubt – Philippians 4:19, James 1:5-8, Romans 8:28

What destroys the “peace” spoken of in God’s Word?  Dwelling on circumstances (which God has under His control.  He permits what He could prevent.  He prevents what He could permit.).  Meditating on the wrong things (that which is not on God’s list in these verses).

God always has a “way out.”  It does not suit us as His Children to dwell in a heavy/depressed heart.

Now, these things are basically about one area of life.  God has a Good Word for every area of life we are confronted with.  Amen.

The Voice of God

what Life is all about…

The Voice of God

Some Christians get concerned, or fearful, that they are not hearing God tell them something each and every day…like others give testimony of such.  Have we ever stopped to think of what the “voice of God” truthfully is?  Have we ever stopped to think that if we are meandering in the pasture He has taken us to and are not wandering off where we ought not to be, that there is no reason for Him to “speak” to us?

Jesus told us “My sheep hear My voice” (John 10:27).  He spoke with emphasis in context of that wonderful 10th chapter of John.  Is there any reason that IF He spoke to us we would not hear Him?  That He would not MAKE SURE we would hear Him?  Are we to “listen” to someone who MUST need a word from Jesus day in and day out, or to Jesus?

Look over and see if you don’t “see” Jesus, YOUR Good Shepherd, sitting down on a knoll near you watching you as you graze and meander through the pasture He took you to…

the way out

what Life is all about…

When someone says they have a “problem,” be sure and ask them a few questions to find out what is REALLY their “problem.”  I have learned that “their problem is not their problem.”

But all discussion about that aside, the real issue is “the way out.”  For example, doctors say they want to help a person with depression.  They give them some medicine to neutralize their emotional state, thereby seeming to “help” them.  Of course the medicine is temporary, and the person will have to take some more medicine to carry them through another time period.

But, God has an answer for anyone who is depressed.  Proverbs 12:25, “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad” (KJV).  What that verse is saying is that “heaviness in the heart of man” (caused by being anxious over some thing in life) has resulted in “the heart stooping” (to bend down)…depressed.  BUT (what I call a “holy” but), a good word makes the heart glad (not stooped, depressed).  WHERE do we find a “good word”?  GOD’s WORD.

In case you need more convincing about “depression,” listen to this: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.”  Proverbs 13:12
And “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”  Proverbs 15:13
And “The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its joy.”  Proverbs 14:10
And “A merry heart does good, like a medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”  Proverbs 17:22

Take a moment to sit down and list the “feelings” that come from a heart that is stooped/depressed/heavy.  Then think of verses that address those things.

I will post my list in a couple of days…

Christ, son of man?

Christ, son of man?                                                                                                                   7-2-18

We can find some very interesting things when we browse through an exhaustive concordance of Scripture.  One such find is this: Jesus Christ never referred to Himself as “the son of man” AFTER His resurrection.  On the surface, that may not seem too important, but take a moment to consider the following:
·         Jesus came as “the son of man” when he was born of the virgin Mary.  He was God come in the flesh (earthsuit).
·         At His resurrection, He arose from the dead NOT in His earthsuit, but His Heavenly, Spiritual body.  He was NO LONGER “God come in the flesh” as such, therefore NO LONGER as “the son of man.”
·         No one touched Christ after His resurrection.
·         Christ was back to His state of being God “in Heaven,” although He had not been “taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight,” which took place on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:9).

How do you refer to Christ today?  Son of man?  Son of God?  or, just God?

Life is all about IDENTITY

what Life is all about…IDENTITY

Do you remember the theme song for the TV program, “CSI”?  “Who, who, who, who, who are you?”  Very catchy.  Very critical for the team to find out the “identity” of the person, so they could then try to solve the crime.

Guess what?  I have found many Believers DON’T KNOW “who they are” as Christians.  This lack of “identity” is crucial.  It leads to so many errors of understanding, analogy, and ultimately: action.

Think about it…IF you had been born into a different family than the one you “know” you were born into, how would that affect your thinking, your interaction with others, and your actions?

Christians who have no clue about any of this “Identity” issue could have definite, powerful, life-changing moments upon learning their truthful “Identity” as a Christian.  SO…more on this at another time.  In the meantime, start thinking about this, and do a little research on your own about this “Identity” matter.  And, start listing some things God shows you from His Word that apply to you and your “Identity” as a Christian.

By the way, do you know HOW you got your “Identity”?

p.s.  If you know someone whom you think might like and/or benefit by this study, share with them how they can register to receive an automatic email of the posts…as well as know how to go to the website to check out previous posts.

what Life is all about...

what Life is all about…

Life as a Christian is always Christ’s Life that I am trusting in…to come out of my earthsuit.

As Hannah Whitall Smith said way back in the mid-1800’s: “Man’s part is to trust, God’s part is to work.”  Well, amen!

Why Ever Worry?

why do you EVER worry about ANYTHING?

So many like to talk about how God has a Plan for their life…and, so should they!  Yet, worry and fears and doubts cripple many from making and/or moving on with their life choices.  WHY?

If God has a plan for our life, and it is unfolding in front of us every day, WHY would we EVER worry about ANYTHING?

Worry, fear, and doubt are the character qualities of an unbelieving Believer, are they not?

The remarkable thing about parables

I almost broke out in a roar at the breakfast table this morning…

while Barbara and I were discussing something relative to Jesus speaking in parables.  All of a sudden, as I was reading Matthew 13:13, I remembered this is Friday the 13th, a day of superstition for those who are not Living in the Mind of Christ.  For those people, parables are somewhat of a superstitious thing…

Of course, what is remarkable about Matthew chapter 13 in the first place is this is where we find the first recorded parables of Jesus.  To top it off, after He made His first declaration, His disciples came to Him and asked why He was speaking to the multitudes like that.  His answer is staggering: (my paraphrase) “so they won’t understand.”  Say what?!?  Read 13:1-17.

Now, the question is: are parables “an earthly story with a heavenly meaning”?  OR, are they “heavenly stories with a heavenly meaning”?  Sort of depends on which mind you are operating in, doesn’t it?

Divine Wisdom vs human wisdom

how does Divine Wisdom differ from human wisdom?

Divine Wisdom is the wisdom of God, His Mind.  Human wisdom is the wisdom of the “natural mind,” that mind humans are physically born with.  Both minds are capable of possessing a tremendous amount of information.

God’s Mind is complete; He is Omniscient.  God’s Wisdom does not change with the times; it is eternal.  All Christians possess God's Mind.

The natural mind will always be incomplete.  It begins in a babe with very little information, and can be added to as time goes by.  The wisdom of the human mind is changeable.  All Christians possess this natural mind.

We Christians possessing the Mind of Christ should always first and foremost be Living in His Mind.

When someone tries to move us into the natural mind, keep in Mind (no pun intended!) that medical books have changed, math books have changed, science books have changed, geography books have changed, & English books have changed…BUT, the Holy Bible (God’s Holy Word and Wisdom) has not changed, except for some perverted modern versions.

We Christians are to be Living in the “faith which was once delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3), and use only that of the natural mind that fits a need of the moment and doesn't conflict with God's Mind.

Mapquest, GPS, or JPS?

which do you use the most???

Our good Christian friend, Beverly Mills Engelhardt, recently sent a writing from a pastor I had heard of years ago through Michael Wells…Bill Loveless, Boerne, TX.  Bill’s writing had given a picture and discussion of life being more like using Mapquest (which is usually used to tell you a “route” to take to get to a place) or GPS (which give you a location of a place on a map) for directions in life.  It is a good devotional.  However, as I recently posted, our friend in Pennsylvania, Tom Hagen, whom God gave the idea of JPS – Jesus Positioning System – speaks of how He sees Jesus putting him in the right place at the right time, all the time.  Beautiful!

Yes, it is practical for Believers to use the technology of GPS or Mapquest (or, any other map technology…they are phenomenal, aren’t they?!?) to navigate from Point A to Point B, or to locate some business/point on a map that we are interested in.  BUT, the bigger question is this: WHY are we looking for a particular spot or business?  WHY do we want to know the “way” to somewhere on the map?  The “WHY” is because of The WAY…our Lord Jesus Christ.  He knows WHY He wants us to be someplace, WHERE that someplace is that He wants us to be, WHEN He wants us to be there, HOW we are to get there, and WHAT He wants to do through us at that particular someplace.  WOW!

Check out Proverbs 3:5-6 and 16:9 for clarification of WHO is determining the “why, where, when, how, and what”…and IS The Real Way.  Need more “proof”?  Here’s a couple of instances in history.  Check out the stories in Genesis ch.37 thru ch.50, culminating with verses 50:19-20, AND Acts ch.16, particularly vs. 6-11.

GPS & Mapquest are good.  Nothing beats JPS.  Well, amen!

if I can't live the "Christian life"...what can I do?

If I can’t live the “Christian life”…

because there is only One person who has ever lived it, and that is Christ Himself, what can I do?  Well, the so-called “Christian life” is actually a description of Christ’s Life.

Jesus tells us in John 14:6 and John 11:25 that He is The LIFE.  The Greek zao speaks of God having Life independent from anyone, and from Whom all Saints receive His Life.  Colossians 3:3-4 tell us Christ is our life.  1 John 5:11-12 specifically state that only Saints have Christ and His life.  And John 6:57 tells us Jesus Lived by the Living Father, and we shall Live by Christ.  Grasp these and you can move to abandon to His Life being Lived through you.

Only the Resurrected Christ IN me, can Live His LIFE through me.  So then, What can I do?  Know God's Truth, believe His Truth and choose to allow Him to Live His Truth through me.  It’s called “walking in His Truth” or “walking in His Spirit.”  Putting one foot forward and watching Him take over!

If YOU are TRYING to live His LIFE, how is it working for you?
